Hogback Warrior of the Year 2024 - Tamara Cook

Tell us a bit about yourself...

I live in Klamath Falls with my son, Isaac. I'm a hair dresser here in town.  Most of the time, you can find me in the salon or the gym, and I spend a lot of time at the soccer fields with Isaac. 


I like to camp, hike, kayak, and paddle boarding. My favorite vacation is to visit the Oregon coast. And of course, I enjoy spending time with Isaac, friends and loved ones. 

Fitness Journey

 

I started at Hogback in 2018 and loved the support of everyone - no matter where you are at in your journey. I was pretty consistent until my son, Isaac, started school and sports, which made the time commitment more difficult. Now that Isaac is older, I'm able to get back to the gym more consistently. 


I played Volleyball in high school, and it kept me in shape. After high school while working full time and going to college, I did not find time for my fitness. In 2018, my friend convinced me to try out Hogback Strength & Wellness. After Day One of Foundations, I already knew I had found my place. I loved the atmosphere, the coaching, and the challenge. 

How has fitness impacted your life?

I do it for Isaac so he can see healthy habits. This wasn't an influence I had growing up. I also do it to combat health issues. 


My favorite movements in the gym are deadlifts and slam balls. And now that I'm getting better at them, I really like pistol squats too.


Advice to others

 My advice... Set backs are a part of the journey. You can always start again. Each day is a new day to start over and improve yourself.  

Why Hogback Strength & Wellness?

In the past, I would try getting a traditional gym membership but would never really use it. On occasion I would go into a gym and walk on the treadmill or attempt to use some of the equipment. I was very insecure and uncomfortable because I never really knew what I was doing.

 I choose Hogback because AJ had been a client for a few years and knew I was interested. I liked that the gym offered classes with experienced coaches. AJ told me I didn’t have to already be in shape to start at Hogback Strength & Wellness.

What has it meant to be a part of the Hogback Family?

The gym is my therapy.

 I love that our gym has such a wonderful community. This gym family has been with my through some of my hardest times. 

You will never find a gym like Hogback Strength & Wellness. They pride themselves of having a "supportive family" type of environment, inside and outside the gym.
